Nice to Meat you!
Steak, chicken & burgers were not the only things that sizzled as B4b hosted it’s summer networking event on Thursday 21st June. The location was the Ballymun Child & Family Resource Centre in Shangan and it proved to be an excellent venue. As the smell of food cooking on the BBQ wafted in from the sun-trapped courtyard Chairman Robert Murphy opened the meeting by introducing the centres manager Valerie O’Carroll who provided an update on all the great services they provide including the Ballymun Coderdojo that is run from the Centre each Saturday morning. Following Valerie was B4b treasurer Eoin Murray. Eoin updated the group with some examples of where business was being done within the network and beyond that highlighted the benefit of being a member of Bb4. Following Eoin we had Niamh Kelly from Mindful Measures www.mindfulmeasures.ie/about who did a quick pitch about her businesses. Niamh offers effective counselling, psychotherapy and skills training that facilitate wellbeing among clients and equips them to pursue what it is they truly value in life. She also had a special offer for our members on the night.
Liam Barry economic development officer with DCC then provided an update on the Ballymun LAP and the latest developments in the area. There was some very positive news on the disposal of some vacant sites with new developments by Lidl and Decathlon in the pipeline to name but a few. We were delighted to welcome former Ireland International Rugby Player Luke Fitzgerald who is now a treasury dealer with AIB to the meeting and Luke gave an update on Brexit and how it will impact business. Last but by no means least to the stage was B4b member Maureen Byrne from AIB. Maureen is a champion of the power of networking and shared her ‘six steps of networking effectively’ that will be shared with all our members. Maureen once again encouraged our members to try and meet at least one other member between meetings as you just never know what may come of it.
And so as the aroma of the food being cooked on the BBQ continued to drift into the room Robert closed the meeting by wishing everybody a pleasant summer. It was time to convene to the picnic benches outside where everybody tucked in to some lovely food supplied by Nan’s Super Valu, Ballymun. Many of our members hung around chatting, doing business and enjoying the last of the evening sun.
It was a wonderful evening and great to ketchup!
Special thanks to BCFRC for hosting and to everybody who made it a special evening. We will see you again in September with another exciting event.
