Through the Eyes of a Child

 In Local Events

What?

Through the Eyes of a Child is an exhibition of work created simultaneously by school children in Ireland and Syrian refugee children based in a camp in Greece. The works show the beautifully honest responses of children to war and displacement. First and second year students in Margaret Aylward Community College were asked to create ceramic pieces that showed how they imagined it would feel to be torn from their homes and families and flee to an unknown destination bringing only a few precious belongings.

As part of their recovery process, refugee children created drawings and writings where they reflected on their lived experience of these events. It is remarkable to note the similarity in the images and emotions described used by the children in both locations. The exhibition demonstrates that all children crave security, a family unit and a childhood free from fear.

Come and see their work and participate in creative workshops led by students from Margaret Aylward Community College which will be running conjunction with this event.

When?

The exhibition starts on the 5th April 2017 at the Axis Theatre in Ballymun
